Go Virtual with the Music School

Virtual Learning at the Music School

The Music School is able to provide many private lessons virtually!

To study virtually at the Music School, you will require:
  • an internet connection and sufficient bandwidth to share and receive video transmission
  • an internet connected device with a camera, a microphone, and a display large enough to view the instructor and instrument or topic
  • a quiet space with sufficient lighting
What are some online platforms your teacher may be using?
  • Zoom
  • Skype
  • FaceTime Video
  • WhatsApp Video
  • Facebook Video (through Facebook Messenger)
  • Google Hangout
  • Google Duo
  • Viber Messenger
Tips from our online teachers to help your experience be the best that it can be!
  • Gather your supplies before the lesson begins: instrument, tuner, music stand, sheet music, pencil, instrument maintenance supplies, etc.
  • Make sure the space where your lessons will take place has good lighting and that the outside light does not shine directly on to your electronic device.
  • Also make sure you are set up to have the lesson in a quiet space. Background noise and commotion are very distracting during a video lesson. Use headphones/earbuds if needed to help with this.
  • Test your equipment ahead of time to make sure you have a good internet connection.
  • Make sure your phone/tablet is set up so the entire action of playing can be visible on screen.
  • Speak loudly, clearly, and directly into the camera. A little lip reading might be needed if there's an occasional delay.
  • Because of possible delay, try to refrain from "talking over" the other party. If you need to interject, try giving a hand signal into the camera before talking
