Instructional Opportunities

Wilmington Branch

Part-Time Suzuki Piano Teacher (Wilmington, Delaware) – The Music School of Delaware Suzuki Academy. Qualified individuals will be responsible for teaching private lessons for enrolled Suzuki piano students, ages 3 and up. Experienced teachers will also be responsible for planning and teaching Suzuki Piano Group & Musicianship Classes on Saturdays. Some administrative hours will be necessary, including regular attendance at biweekly department meetings and prompt replies to department emails and communications. Recitals and events will occupy up to 4 Sundays per academic year, and many outreach concerts and group rehearsals will take place on Saturdays. Candidates should be comfortable sitting on the floor and carrying instruments and supplies. We welcome diversity.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Successful completion of Suzuki Teacher Piano Training, Level 1 minimum, with plans to pursue higher levels (professional development available)
  2. Strong piano performance and musical skills
  3. Engaging teacher presence
  4. Bachelor of Music degree or Bachelor of Arts in Music with a piano concentration required
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Show up early and ready to teach
  2. Adhere to the agreed upon teaching schedule
  3. Prepare lesson plans for various age groups and class sizes
  4. Report to Suzuki Academy Department Head
  5. Attend Department Meetings, as available
  6. Respond promptly (within 1-2 days) to department communications
Key skills needed:
  1. Good time-management
  2. Flexibility in the classroom
  3. Comfortable leading classes and educating parents
